Abstract

This study aimed to assess the implementation of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in Schools (WinS) program in the 10 schools of Baybay 2 District. Utilizing an embedded research design, the study assessed the level of implementation and extent of practice across the program’s five key areas. In quantitative, data were collected using survey questionnaires among 10 school heads, 15 teachers, and 365 learners. In the treatment of data, the weighted mean was used and interpreted using a descriptive correlational analysis. The findings revealed a "high" level of implementation and a "high" extent of practice. By using a chi-square test, a highly significant relationship between these two factors was shown and aligns with the theory of change, suggesting that effective implementation leads to extensive practice. Whereas in qualitative, data were collected through interviews from three school heads, three teachers, and nine learners. In the analysis using phenomenological approach with the aid of MAXQDA software; the participants’ experiences were classified into three main themes: first is Achievements with the sub-themes: Nurturing Holistic Education, Transformative Impacts, and Fostering Health and Hygiene; second is Challenges with the sub-themes: Striving for Excellence, Addressing Resource Gaps, and Building Hygienic Environment; and third is Suggestions with the sub-themes: Strategic Advancements, Empowering Well-being, and Intensifying Awareness. An action plan is the output of this study.
